About Life in Person

Life in Person is an independent peer support service for people living with binge eating disorder. It was founded by Katrina Atkins after the private treatment suggested by her GP was out of reach, and she saw how many others face that same gap.

Every session is guided by lived experience and built on the belief that community and connection are central to recovery.

Frequently asked questions

What is Lived Experience Peer Support?

Our Peer Support program is led by people who have personally navigated challenges like binge eating, grief, or challenging life transitions. Through shared experience, empathy, and practical guidance, we offer a safe space to explore your recovery journey together, build resilience and rediscover hope.

What types of issues do your support groups and resources cover?

Our support groups and resources primarily focus on Binge Eating Disorder, providing a safe space for individuals to share experiences, find support, and learn practical strategies for managing their challenges.

Which eating disorders does Life in Person support?

Life in Person currently focuses on binge eating disorder and related challenges. We are non clinical and do not provide treatment or advice, so for clinical care of any eating disorder we recommend speaking with a qualified health professional.

How often do your support groups meet?

Online sessions take place on a regular timetable that is available for booking, and availability is updated frequently. In person sessions are available on the Central Coast, and new in person announcements are shared on the Life in Person Facebook page.

How are respect and privacy maintained in group peer support sessions?

Group sessions are guided by agreed-upon ground rules that promote respect, confidentiality and safety. Participants are encouraged to listen without judgment, keep shared experiences private to the group and create a supportive and inclusive environment for everybody.

Is there a fee to join Life in Person?

There is no fee to join Life in Person, and there is no ongoing cost beyond what you choose to access and use.

Courses, sessions, and services are priced individually and designed to be as accessible as possible, so people can access support and recovery resources without unnecessary financial pressure.

Life in Person encourages focusing on one skill or routine at a time before moving on to the next.

How do you ensure privacy and confidentiality?

One on one sessions take place in a private, agreed-upon location or online. Everything you share remains confidential which is supported by privacy and confidentiality agreements. Peer Support facilitators follow clear guidelines to ensure a safe, respectful, and non-judgmental space for your personal journey.
